YA126 project in Southeast US

Berichtdoor mike » wo 23 mar 2011 00:56

Hello guys, I recently got a 1956 YA126, this is a great truck! The truck had been sitting outside for almost 2 years. So far I've been working out all the normal bugs, brakes and exhaust issues. I'll post up some pics tonite.
The plan is to fix any issues, then do some body work and take the DAF to mv shows and get togethers.
Hopefully yall can help me get this truck back on the road and trail. :D

Hi,

Welcome on this forum, maybe you got the 'GI Jane Daf' ? ;)

Check out this link to see where our beloved ya126 model shows up in movies:
http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=DAF& ... bc6c730298

There are no dafs known to us in the US (except in the movies). In Canada a dutch guy owned a YA 328 but a YA126 is unique.
On this forum the guys really know anything about the ya126 (and beyond), regardless the subject.

So, any questions difficulties success stories or whatever memorable things you want to post, b our guest! Parts are still available, against fair prices. shipping will be the hardest thing i believe.

Thanks for the welcome yall!
I've really been enjoying workin' on the YA, I'm not a mechanic but still enjoying the wrenchin'. :D
Not sure about it being a Hollywood truck, stranger things have happened. My Skinny was in Colorado until it came to North Carolina in 2008. It had sat strapped to a trailer since. :x

Although I had never seen a DAF much less a YA126, the truck appeared to be all original and almost complete with all parts. I didn't get the tool kit, and the sails are trash but may be used as templates.

Looks your your piece is well preserved. OK some wear and tear but the rest seems okidoki.

Congratulations. I'll bet the mileage (kilometres) is original.

The vacuum break booster (if that's the right word for it) has some leakage of breakfluid.

Just clean the booster and build it up again, the big membrane and the housing should be lubricated with oil for shock absorbers.
With the nipples on the booster you can vent air out of the breaking system.

There is a manual in dutch, maybe pasting text in bablefish or google translate may give a clue.
I sent you a link to a searchable (OCR'ed) pdf .

Thanks yall.
Thanks for the link to the manual, that'll make it easier to get it all translated.
She's gonna be alot of fun to drive and is a very easy driver too!
I cleaned the servo and lubed it but it needs a complete rebuild I think. I've a kit enroute from Peter. Hopefully that will fix the issue. Do I just lube the membrane/plunger during assy? Or does the servo hold some shock oil? I've searched but haven't found a solid answer.

We just replaced the manifold gasket. 2 came out, I only put 1 back on.

Fill the servo with shock oil up to the plug ( page 34 - point (10) )
Lubricating during assembly is always a good idea (avoids hurting)

Mike,

There are no dafs known to us in the US (except in the movies), that's a mistake. I know there's one in Arizona and he bought it in Colorado. And there are a few more
in the USA.

In this film you can see the YA 126 a several times. At 0.40, 0.50 and 2.00. The movie itself
has been taken from inside the YA 126.

Nice video John, thanks.
The previous owner said that there were 2 126s' together in Co.when he bought this one. I'd bet the other is the one that went to Az.

Dat zijn bekende DAFjes. Heb daar in het verleden onderdelen voor geleverd. :)

I know these DAF's. In the past I have send parts to the US for these DAF's
